1970's Gibson SG at GC in Dallas for $999

This SG is a bit of a mystery to me but it looks like an excellent deal just the same. Sure it's not a '61 but it's not $4500 either. Check it out.

It certainly could be a 1973 SG Special since it has the Black Mini-Humbuckers but the Special that year had Dot Inlays on the neck - this one has Trapezoids. So the neck makes it seem more like an 1973 SG Standard. It also lacks the wide rectangular Tunematic bridge that all the 1973's had - this one looks like a standard ABR-1. Which makes me lean towards it being a 1975. But the knobs are more like a 1969-1971. However those type knobs did come on the SG Deluxe (a very different model) in 1973. This Guitar lacks the Crown inlay on the headstock - indicating it could be a Special from 1973 or 1975 - but those neck inlays don't fit.

COnfused? Welcome to my world. Since all SG Standards from this period had "Super Humbucking" pickups not the Mini-hums I am pretty sure we can consider this to be a Special. But what year?

If the Serial number starts with a "0" its a 1973 for sure but knowing the serial number might only confuse us further. Gibson SN's from this period are a mess.
