Collector Alert: 1957 Magnatone Mark III w/ Fender 1957 Champ in Indiana

Okay this one is not for the faint of heart or shallow of wallet but I talked to this nice old guy named Andy who is selling these and he is "taking offers" on his 50+ year old set. Andy says he traded a trumpet and some cash for this setup back in the late 50's and never learned to play the guitar so they all sat in the closet unmolested. It sounds like his Mark III is the White MOTS SINGLE PICKUP neck thru version built by Paul Bigsby in California. And the Amp very well may be a narrow panel Tweed Champ. He's not sure about the years but says he got them around 1958.

Andy says his top offer right now is $2400 for the guitar, case and amp together. He also says he sent some pics to Christie's Auction House in NY to get a more informed opinion. He's an old guy but he's not stupid so who knows what he will take. It's hard to put a value on something this obscure - though the Champ is a known quantity - and the collectibility will really depend on the condition.

There is a Mark III on eBay right now with a BIN of $5000+ but I will be shocked if it actually sells for that much. Though, we are talking about a real 1950's solid body electric guitar by an icon of the industry. A Bigsby made guitar is a prize for sure - and this particular set "might" be in beautiful shape.
